Kennedy stood in the kitchen of Doug’s house and scented the air. They’d combed over every inch, including the outside property, but there was no sign of Darius anywhere.

“He didn’t vanish into thin air,” Tucker said. “I would think so if we were dealing with someone who wasn’t human, but Ben said the guy who took Darius was human. Do you think he had a partner? Because that’s the only way he could have gotten the jump on Darius.”

That stumped Kennedy. How had a human gotten the drop on a wolf shifter with heightened hearing and strength? That made absolutely no sense to him. “I’m not sure, but we don’t stop looking until we find him.”

“Let’s sweep the property one more time,” Tucker said. “It rained this morning, so maybe we missed his scent.”

At this point, Kennedy would try anything. Tucker was right. The rain had interfered with their sense of smell. Another sweep wouldn’t hurt.

“Just hang in there, Darius,” he muttered to himself. “We’re going to find you.”
